Edge computing, or the shift of computers closer to where data is generated, could transform business by speeding up analysis and enabling innovation. It is a new kind of architecture, one that goes beyond the data center or the cloud, knitting together technologies such as 5G mobile networks, data analytics, artificial intelligence and sensors. Adoption is still in the early stages but some early adopters are incorporating edge computing into manufacturing, retail, agriculture and transportation.
